AGMB has a full-service entertainment law practice, representing production companies, screenwriters, authors, directors, actors, on-air television personalities, producers, musicians and models, and many other clients in the industry. Our attorneys negotiate the full spectrum of agreements in the entertainment field, on behalf of individual clients as well as film, television and multi-media production companies. Additionally, due to its wide range of practice areas, AGMB is able to offer its entertainment clients a uniquely broad range of additional services, including litigation/dispute resolution (relating to entertainment or otherwise), estate planning, formation and operation of loan-out corporations, trademark and copyright filing and enforcement, and, through an affiliated company, complete accounting, business management and tax return preparation services. The firm prides itself on being a "one-stop shop" for entertainment clients.
Representation of Individuals and Companies
Our work on behalf of entertainment clients includes drafting and negotiating acting, directing and producing agreements, option-purchase agreements relating to books and screenplays, record label agreements and publishing agreements for musicians and composers, co-production and other collaboration agreements, live performance contracts, and endorsement agreements.
The firm also has extensive experience representing all types of production companies, including those that specialize in motion pictures and television shows as well as multi-media and commercial production entities. We lend our expertise to these clients not only in connection with their creative endeavors but also with respect to their business operations, including selection of the most suitable form of entity, securing capital, protecting intellectual property, and branding and licensing. AGMB attorneys also frequently provide production legal services for clients' motion picture, television and multimedia projects.
Production Legal Services
AGMB's comprehensive production legal services extend from pre-production through distribution. More specifically, such services normally include: handling project financing and complying with securities laws; securing all intellectual property rights (e.g., the option and/or purchase of a script or employing a writer to create or rewrite a script, securing music licenses, etc.); ensuring compliance with the rules of applicable guilds (e.g., WGA, SAG, AFTRA and DGA); drafting and negotiating agreements with the actors, director, producers and crew; preparing location agreements, appearance releases, artwork releases, and all other releases relating to the people, places and objects depicted; handling agreements with equipment vendors; and assisting in securing production liability and errors and omissions insurance policies.
With respect to television programs, production legal services also include negotiating the production agreement with the broadcaster, while for films, foreign and domestic distribution agreements and/or sales agent agreements are negotiated. AGMB production legal attorneys also address the many unpredictable legal issues that inevitably arise from the unique circumstances of each film or television production.
